The Cardinals Compete in MSU Auto Owners Invite

East Lansing, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's cross country teams placed fourth and seventh, respectively, in the MSU Auto Owners Invite. The Cardinals were led by sophomore CarLee Stimpfel and junior Jenna Keiser in the teams first 8K and 6K for the 2019 season.

Women's Results: The women finished seventh overall with a point total of 247, just 17 points behind GLIAC competitor Northern Michigan. The Cardinals top-three finishers placed in the top-50 of a field of almost 300 competitors.

  • Junior Jenna Keiser finished 19th overall crossing the line at a new personal best of 22:27.1, bettering her time from last year by 22 seconds
  • Teammate Morgan Fuerst came in with a time of 22:39.3, good for 24th overall
  • Right behind Fuerst was senior Sydney Kreger who placed 42nd overall with a final time of 23:18.4
  • Finishing in 75th place was sophomore Katelyn Spooner who crossed the line at 24:15.7
  • Rounding out the Cardinals top-five was sophomore Arianna Wegienka who timed in at 24:28.0 good for 87th overall

Men's Results: The men finished fourth overall with a point total of 131 behind GLIAC competitor Michigan Tech.  The Cardinals top-three finishers placed in the top-20 in a competitive field of over 330 athletes.

  • Sophomore CarLee Stimpfel placed in the top-five finishing fourth overall with a final time of 25:02.5, good for a new lifetime best by 17 seconds
  • Following Stimpfel was sophomore Ryan Talbott who finished eighth overall with a personal best of 25:18.0, improving upon his previous best time by 15 seconds
  • Finishing 19th overall was sophomore Dayton Brown who crossed the line with a new personal best of 25:43.9
  • Coming in behind Brown was teammate Sam Deardorff who placed 45th overall with a new lifetime best of 26:26.5
  • Rounding out the Cardinals top-five was junior Branden Bohling who earned a time of 26:38.7 good for 56th place
