Men Punch Ticket to NCAA Championships; Women Finish Fifth at Midwest Regionals

Hillsdale, Mich. —Both the men's and women's SVSU cross country teams competed well Saturday (Nov. 17) morning, with the men's team securing a trip to the NCAA Championships in December.

The SVSU men's cross country team earned their NCAA Championship berth after finishing second at the Midwest Regionals, while the women's team fell just shy of a bid, finishing in fifth overall.

The men were led once again by Tom Goforth, who finished in fourth with a time of 31:48.18 in the 10k race. Nate Frasier also did impeccably well for the Cardinals, running a 31:57.42, earning a ninth place finish. 

Rounding out the Top five scores for the Cardinals was Austen Mandernach (22), running a 32:26.4, Parker Eisengruber (27), with a time of 32:41.8, and lastly, Ryan Talbott (30) recording a finishing time of 32:44.8.

Allison Dorr led the women's team for the second race in a row, finishing in ninth place overall with a time of 21:54.62. She was followed by teammates Sophia Bradley (30) and Morgan Fuerst (34) to round out the Top 40 in the 6k race. Dorr will compete in the national championships this year as an individual.

The women's team will await to see if they earn an at-large bid into the national championships. With a top three finish in the region, the men's team will advance their season at the NCAA Championships held on Dec. 1 in Slippery Rock, Pa.
