Cross Country Heads To GLIAC Championships On Saturday

UNIVERSITY CENTER — The SVSU Men's and Women's Cross Country teams will head to the GLIAC Cross Country Championship Saturday (Nov. 3) morning held at the Gainey Athletic Complex at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Men's Race: Saturday (Nov. 3) 11 a.m. 

Last season, the Cardinal men finished second at the GLIAC tournament, earning a bid to the Regional Championships where they took sixth as a team.

The men's team enters the meet with a second place ranking in the midwest region and a 10th overall ranking in the nation. Top runners to look out for are Tom Goforth, Parker Eisengruber and Ryan Talbott

Senior Goforth has placed top five in both races he competed in, winning the Calvin Invite with a time of 24:53.5. Then, he went on to finish fourth at the Lewis Crossover overall, but, earned a new PR of 24:44.0. He is currently the top runner for the Cardinal men's team. 

Eisengruber ran a 25:34.9 in the Lewis Crossover, finishing 32nd overall. This time is his current personal record here at SVSU. He finished 12th overall at the GLIAC Championships last season and earned second-team All-GLIAC accolades. 

Lastly is freshman Talbott who comes into the GLIAC Championship running a 25.33.3 at the Lewis Crossover, finishing right infront of Eisengruber, and tallied a 14th place finish in the Calvin Invite after completing a time of 25:42.0 at the beginning of the season. 

 
Other runners for the Cardinals are looking to be Timmy Kimball, Andrew Bond, Owen Howard, Zak Drews, Austen Mandernach, Nate Frasier and Branden Bohling.

Women's Race: Saturday (Nov. 3) 11:45 a.m. 

In the 2017 campaign, the women's team finished fourth over the 11 teams in attendance. 

The women's team enters the Championship with a fifth place rank in the midwest region along with a 25th overall national ranking. Top runners currently for the women include Allison DorrSophia Bradley and Morgan Fuerst

Senior Dorr has finished top five twice in the 2018 season, taking fourth place at the 18:22.1 in the 5k race at the Calvin Invite and then finished fifth at the Lewis Crossover with a finishing time of 21:55.3. She is currently the top runner for this season thus far. 

Bradley, the other top senior, has a top time of 23:09 in the 6k race. She finished 37th overall in the GLIAC Championships last season. 

Sophomore Furest finished 17th in the 2017 XC Championships with a time of 22:57.2. She earned second-team All-GLIAC for her efforts. This season, Fuerst's best time was a 23:17.7 at the Lewis Crossover. 

Other runners for the SVSU Women's team includes Isabella Garcia, Jenna Keiser, Grace Kendziorski, Sydney Kreger, Carissa Martin, Kinzie Sikkema, Katelyn SpoonerRebecca Estep and Dominique Adams
