SVSU Cross Country Heads To NCAA Midwest Regional Championships

CEDARVILLE, Ohio — The Saginaw Valley State Men's and Women's Cross Country teams will travel to Cedarville, Ohio, to race in the NCAA Regional Championships held by Cedarville University. The meet will take place at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course at the north end of the campus, just east of State Route 72.

The Men's team is headed into the regional championship with an eighth place seed, being one of only three GLIAC teams to make the regional tournament. The Cardinals finished second the GLIAC tournament held by Northern Michigan in October, with five members earning all-conference accolades. Junior Parker Eisengruber lead the Cardinal team with a 12th place finish, contributing a time of 25:58.3. In the number one spot in the region is held by Grand Valley State and Michigan Tech rounds out the regional standings at number 10. The SVSU Men's team race will begin at 11:45 a.m.

The Saginaw Valley men's team previously posted a third place finish in the 2016 NCAA DII Midwest Regionals and went on to finish 10th at the Division II National Championships.

Then Lady Cards are coming off a fourth place finish at the GLIAC Championships two weekends ago, sneaking themselves into the regional tournament at No. 10. Saginaw Valley also contributed two runners to the all-conference team with freshman Maggie Pawelczyk leading the pack with a 22:51.6 time and a 13th place finish and Morgan Fuerst followed a few runners behind with a 17th place finish, running a 22:57.2. Grand Valley is leading the midwest region at number one, with michigan tech at number nine to round out the GLIAC members. The Women's team will begin there race prior to the men's at 10:30 a.m.

Last season, the women's team ranked 13th overall in the Midwest Regional meet while having Allison Dorr qualify individually after her 15th place overall finish. She went on to finish 60th individually at the NCAA Division II Championships.

The admission price is $7 per vehicle that you must pay upon entering the lot. Concessions will be available near the finish line as well as restrooms.
