Men's Cross Country Finishes 6th at Jayhawk Invitational, Women Compete Well Individually

Muskegon, Mich. — 
The Cardinal Men and Women's Cross Country teams competed in the Jayhawk Invitational Friday morning on the west side of the state. The men's team finished sixth out of sixteen teams that attended the race. The Women's team ran individually and had two runners finish in the top 50. 

Men's 8,000 Meter Race-
Team Finish: 6th (136 Points) 

The Saginaw Valley State Men's Cross Country team competed well during Friday's race, finishing sixth over 16 schools that competed in the Jayhawk Invitational. Top runners for Saginaw Valley were junior Kavi Kulkarni, placing 20th overall with a time of 26:28.58, beating his personal record by almost a minute. Junior Jordan Walters also broke his personal record by almost two minutes, finishing 33rd, running a 27:04.94. 

Other Saginaw Valley team members finishes were Thomas Kean (56th), Ryan Silvestri (63rd) and Tellis Donjanowski (74th).
 
Women's Recap- 5,000 Meter Run 

Four Cardinals competed in the 5k run, with sophomore Laura Estrada earning the top runner spot, with a 32nd finish and ran a 19:49.55. Freshman Kylie Sikkema ran her best colliegate race to date with a 20:08.78, finishing 46th overall. Junior Kinzie Sikkema finished 65th and freshman Madison Dean rounded Saginaw Valley out with a 121st finish out of 190 participants. 

Up Next...

The teams will compete in the GLIAC Championships  held by Northern Michigan University on Saturday Oct. 21. The first race is set for 10 a.m.
