Cross Country Teams Place 11 in Top 100 at MSU Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING – Saginaw Valley's men's and women's cross country team competed in a tough race at the MSU Spartan invitational held by Michigan State University Friday morning (Sept. 15). 

Men's XC:

Freshman Branden Bohling was the top runner for the men's team with a time of 26:49.6, finishing 60th out of 282 runners. Sophomore Austen Mandernach finished close behind Bohling, finishing 63rd with a time of 26:56.8. Tellis Donajkowski was an impressive runner for the coaches as he finished 77th with a time of 27:24.0. 

"It was Tellis'  best effort in a collegiate race. He really impressed me today. It was his best performance to date collegiately and I am excited about where he is in his running," said recently promoted associate head track and field coach Jason Hartmann. "I think this year could be his year. He put it together today in a way I was proud of."

The men's team finished four in the top 100 of the MSU Spartan Invitational. 

Women's XC:

Freshman Maggie Pawelczyk contributed the top running spot for the women's team, finishing 44th out of 300 runners. Junior Sophia Bradley followed behind, placing 55th overall with a time of 23:30.8. Alicia Tomlin took 63rd, followed by Morgan Fuerst (79th) and Jenna Keiser (88th). The women's team rounded out today's top 100 with Sydney Kreger and Darby Meinecke. The Cardinals finished seven in the Top 100. 

Up Next...

The Cardinals will head to the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Kent., on Saturday (Sept. 30). The races are set to begin around 9 a.m.
