Short Leads Lady Cards to 5th Place Finish At GLIAC Championships

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University women's cross country team posted a fifth place finish at the 2014 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships, hosted by Tiffin University at the Seneca Hills Golf Course in Tiffin, Ohio.

Saginaw Valley had all five scoring times in the top-40 and finished the event with 135 points, just behind Northern Michigan, which finished with 111 points.  Grand Valley claimed the title for the 14th straight year with a final score of 21 points.

The Cardinals were paced by senior Emily Short who finished in 12th place, crossing the line with a time of 21:16.5 in the 6K event.  Short's performance landed her on the 2014 All-GLIAC Second Team.

Senior Chantelle Fondren clocked in at 21:40.9, which was good for a 21st place finish.  Fondren narrowly missed a top-20 finish and a spot on the All-GLIAC Second Team by about four seconds.

The next Lady Cardinals to cross the finish line were junior Taylor Stepanski and sophomore Christina Micale who finished in 30th and 35th, respectively.  Stepanski finished with a time of 22:00.7 and Micale at 22:13.8.

Rounding out the scoring for SVSU was senior Tori Peet, finishing at 22:31.1 which was good for 43rd place in the event.

SVSU returns to action on November 22nd when they travel to Evansville, Indiana for the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships, set to begin at 11:30 am.
