Women Runners Claim Second at Lucian Rosa as Short Wins Second Straight Event

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's cross country team ran to a runner-up finish at the 2014 Lucian Rosa Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

SVSU senior runner Emily Short claimed the top spot in the event, making it the second-straight victory for her.  Short won the Northwood University Invitational just a week ago.  She ran a time of 17:41.5 on Saturday, distancing herself from the next nearest competitor by 13 seconds.

Junior Taylor Stepanski was the next finisher for the Cardinals, claiming a top-10 finish with a ninth-place showing and a time of 18:14.0.

Senior Chantelle Fondren was 18th, posting a time of 18:29.4 and sophomore teammate Christina Micale wasn't far behind with a 20th place finish (18:37.5).

Tori Peet, another senior on the squad, rounded-out the team's scoring at 23rd place and a time of 18:39.0.

The top five times for SVSU totaled 1:31:41.7, just shy of Northern Michigan's winning total of 1:31:18.9.  The Wildcats had 58 points in the victory while the Cards had 71.

Saginaw Valley returns to the course on October 24th at the Eastern Michigan Classic.
