Lady Cardinals Claim Top Spot at Northwood Invitational

MIDLAND - The Saginaw Valley State University women's cross country team posted a first place finish at the Northwood University Invitational on Saturday morning (10/4).

The Cardinals claimed the top spot by totaling 21 points, 20 better than runner-up Ferris State University.  SVSU had all five of the runners who scored place in 8th or better.

Senior Emily Short finished first in the race, coming in at 17:52.18 for the 5K race.  Fellow senior Chantelle Fondren was next, finishing in second place with a time of 18:21.43.

Tori Peet, also a senior for SVSU, claimed a fourth place showing with a time of 18:37.78 while sophomore Christina Micale (18:39.97, 6th), freshman Alicia Tomlin (19:05.28, 8th) and senior Jessica Reeves (19:07.64, 9th) all rounded-out the top-10 for the impressive Cardinal showing.

The ladies are back in action Saturday, October 11th, when they travel to Kenosha, Wisconsin to run at the Lucian Rosa Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
