Lady Cardinals Clinch Trip To Nationals After Second Place Finish At Regionals

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's cross country team clinched its third-straight trip to the NCAA Division II National Championships after a second place finish at the Midwest Regional Championships on Saturday (Nov. 9)

Saginaw Valley had two runners finish in the top-10 with three student-athletes earning All-Region honors after finishing in the top-25.  The Cardinals finished th 6k event with 103 points, 61 points behind the regional winner Grand Valley.  

Junior Emily Short led the Cardinals, finishing in fifth place at the 21:37 mark.  Right behind her was sophomore Taylor Stepanski, who crossed the finish line in 21:48, good enough for ninth place overall.

Sophomore Jessica Reeves placed 23rd with a time of 22:15.  Rounding out the scoring for Saginaw Valley were Juniors Chantelle Fondren and Tori Peet, who finished the race in 28th and 38th with times of 22:29 and 22:46, respectively.

With the second place finish, the Cardinals qualify to compete in the NCAA Division II National Championships which will take place on Nov. 23rd in Spokane, Wash.  The Cardinals finished 12th in the national meet in 2012 and 13th in 2011.
