Lady Cardinals Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Award

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's cross country team was selected as an all-academic team recipient by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the 2011 season today (Feb. 16).  The Lady Cardinals recorded an impressive 3.65 team GPA in the fall, the sixth highest GPA in the nation.

A total of 124 institutions represent 23 conferences that compose the group. The PSAC notched 15 teams on the All-Academic list to lead the country. The Northeast-10 and GLIAC followed with 11 each.

Nebraska-Kearney and Gannon reported the highest cumulative team GPA at 3.78. Truman State and Central Missouri followed at 3.73.

Of the 24 teams that participated in the national final, 21 of those earned All-Academic status. Seven of eight regional-champion teams also earned the nod.

Scholar Teams of the year are determined from among those who earned All-Academic status and placed highest as a team at the most recent NCAA Championships.

To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have tallied a team score at the NCAA Regional Championships.
