Women Finish Third at GLIAC Cross Country Championships

ASHLAND, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's cross country teams competed today (10/22) in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Cross Country Championships.  The women's team would finish third overall with four runners finishing in the top-25 for the 6k while the men finished seventh overall with four runners in the top-50 for the 8k.

The women's team was led by sophomore Alycia Wright (Macomb Township, Mich./Lutheran High North) who came in with a final time of 23:26.77, good for 17th place.  Wright was followed by freshman teammate Emily Short (Tawas, Mich./Tawas Area HS) who earned a 19th place finish crossing the line at 23:29.50.  Junior Lauren Hill (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock HS) and senior Jean Hollerbach (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe HS) would follow Short timing in at 23:32.73 and 23:34.62, respectively, good for 21st and 22nd places.  Rounding out the Cardinals top-five was senior Megan Pittoors (Macomb, Mich./Dakota HS) who clocked in at 23:43.16, good for a 29th place finish.

The men's team was led by junior Tyler Noble (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS) who clocked in at 26:36.58, good for a 22nd place finish.  Junior transfer Eric Spitz (Holt, Mich./Holt HS) would follow close behind Noble earning a 26th place finish crossing the line at 26:39.50.  Transfer Joseph Burelle (Sterling Heights, Mich./Livonia Stevenson HS) timed in at 27:06.81 placing him 39th overall.  Rounding out Saginaw Valley's top-five were teammates Chad Scott (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern HS) and Jacob Lauka (Oxford, Mich./Lake Orion HS) who clocked in at 27:33.98 and 27:46.07, respectively, good for 55th and 64th place finishes. 

The Cardinals are back in action again Saturday (11/5) when they compete in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Meet.
