Lady Cardinals Place First at LCC Invitational

LANSING, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's cross country teams competed Friday (9/30) in the Lansing Community College (LCC) Invitational. The men's team finished the day second overall while the women placed first.

The Lady Cardinals finished the day with seven runners in the top-25 and were led by junior Lauren Hill (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock HS) who finished second overall and came in with a final time of 18:32. Closely following Hill were teammates Alycia Wright (Macomb Township, Mich./Lutheran High North), Ashley Meyer (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS), and Emily Short (Tawas, Mich./Tawas Area HS) coming in at 18:49, 18:53, and 18:53 good for fourth, fifth and sixth places, respectively. Rounding out the Cardinals top-five was senior Jean Hollerbach (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe HS) who crossed the line at 18:59 which was good for an eighth place finish.

The men's team was led by junior Tyler Noble (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS) and junior transfer Joseph Burelle (Sterling Heights, Mich./Livonia Stevenson HS) who finished seventh and eighth overall, both crossing the line at 25:49. Following close behind Noble and Burelle were teammates Jonathan Wetters (Essexville, Mich./Garber HS) and Chad Scott (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern HS) who came in at 26:12 and 26:21, respectively, good for tenth and 11th place finishes. Rounding out Saginaw Valley's top-five was junior transfer Eric Spitz (Holt, Mich./Holt HS) who finished 19th overall with a final time of 26:44.

The Cardinals will be back in action again Friday (10/7) when they travel to Hillsdale, Mich. to compete in the Hillsdale Invitational.
