EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's cross country teams competed today (9/16) in the Michigan State University hosted Spartan Invitational. The men would compete in the 8K while the women woud compete in the 5K.
The Lady Cardinals ran well against a very competitive field of schools including Michigan State University, Grand Valley State University, Western Michigan University, and Miami (OH) finishing with five girls in the top-100. Leading SVSU for the second time this season was senior Megan Pittoors (Macomb, Mich./Dakota HS) who finished 39th overall crossing the line at 22:08. Finishing behind Pittoors was sophomore Alycia Wright (Macomb Township, Mich./Lutheran High North) who came in with a final time of 22:29, good for a 58th place finish. Seniors Ashley Meyer (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS) and Jean Hollerbach (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe HS) would finish 71st and 76th overall with final times of 22:47 and 22:52, respectively. Rounding out the Cardinals top-five was junior Lauren Hill (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock HS) who crossed the line with a final time of 23:05 which was good for an 87th place finish.
The men's team was led by transfers Joey Burelle (Sterling Heights, Mich./Livonia Stevenson HS) and Eric Spitz (Holt, Mich./Holt HS), finishing the 8K with final times of 26:05 and 26:29, good for 72nd and 99th place finishes. Coming in behind Burelle and Spitz was junior Tyler Noble (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS) who earned a 108th place finish clocking in at 26:41. Rounding out Saginaw Valley's top-five were teammates Kyle Henderson (Freeland, Mich./Freeland HS) and Jonathan Wetters (Essexville, Mich./Garber HS) who crossed the line at 26:58 and 27:03, respectively.
The Cardinals will be back in action again September 30th when they compete in the Lansing Community College Invitational.
