BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Saginaw Valley State University volleyball fell against Ferris State Saturday evening 3-0 losing the sets 25-10, 25-12, and 25-11. Kelsey Vittitow led SVSU with 11 digs and Sarah Veale had three kills for the team lead.
Set one started with a Bulldog lead as they got out ahead 5-2 with a 3-0 run. A kill by Veale and an attack error on Ferris brought the Cardinals within two, down 9-7. A 3-0 run and an 8-0 run for FSU gave them a double-digit lead forcing a timeout by SVSU. The Bulldogs secured the first set on a 4-0 run with a service error.
Ferris took the momentum into the second set with an 11-0 run to start. The Cardinals answered back with a run of their own making it 11-4 as they took advantage of attack errors, a kill by Alena Whittaker, and an ace by Veale. Both teams would trade one or two points back and forth until a 3-0 run for Saginaw Valley made it 20-11 Ferris. FSU finished the set with a 2-0 and 3-0 run to secure the two-set lead.
A shake up in set three for SVSU got them out to a 2-0 lead to start. Ferris tied it up with the next two points, and then a 9-0 run for the Bulldogs gave them a 15-6 lead and the momentum to close out the match. A couple of 2-0 runs and a 5-0 run sealed it for Ferris.
SVSU continues the road trip as they head to Hammond, Indiana for two games on Friday and Saturday. The opponents and times are still to be announced.
