Cardinals sweep Panthers to stay unbeaten in GLIAC play

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Saginaw Valley State University women's volleyball squad continued its winning ways on Friday evening by pouncing on the host Davenport University Panthers in a 25-22, 25-16, 25-19 victory at the DU Student Center.

Saginaw Valley rises to 7-4 on the season and 3-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Panthers, meanwhile, dip to 8-4 overall and 1-2 in the GLIAC.

How it Happened:

  • SVSU's defense came up big again as the Cardinals held Davenport to a .112 attack percentage and had a 71-60 digs advantage.
  • Madison Thompson spiked a match-best 15 kills on a .406 hitting percentage.
  • Peyton Gerstacker converted 28 assists for SVSU to go along with five kills (.286) and two blocks.
  • Kelsey Vittitow led four Cardinals in double-digit digs with 18, followed by Gerstacker with 17, Sarah Veale had 13 and Rylee Zimmer, 12.
  • DU's Hayley Kreiger had a match-high-tying 15 kills and completed the double-double with 18 digs.
  • As a team, SVSU hit .242 while committing just 11 errors in 120 attack attempts.
