Huskies close out Cardinals in three sets

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team opened the final weekend of the regular season against Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference leader Michigan Tech Friday at the Hamilton Gymnasium.

The Cardinals fell to the Huskies in three sets 25-18, 25-14, 25-17. The loss drops SVSU to 15-10 overall and 7-7 in the GLIAC.

Rylee Zimmer led the Cardinal offense with seven kills, adding a team-high 13 digs and three block assists. Peyton Gerstacker finished with a double-double, recording 18 assists and 11 digs. Madison Thompson added six kills.

The Cardinals finished with a .101 hitting percentage, and five total blocks in the match.

Anna Jonynas was the story for the Huskies, recording 19 kills and a .341 hitting percentage on 41 swings.

The Cardinals close the regular season on Senior Day against Northern Michigan University at 2 pm on Saturday at the Hamilton Gymnasium.
