SVSU holds on for 5-set win at Parkside

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team battled the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in a back-and-forth match Sunday in Kenosha, Wis.

After the Cardinals took a 2-1 lead, Parkside outlasted SVSU in the fourth to force a fifth set. Three late kills by Rylee Zimmer pushed SVSU to the win, the third for the Cardinals in three days this weekend.

The set scores were 23-25, 25-21, 25-15, 24-26, 15-11. The win moves SVSU to 15-8 overall and 7-5 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Zimmer led the SVSU offense with 15 kills. She added 27 digs and three block assists on defense. Madison Thompson added 14 kills, while Sarah Veale finished with 12 kills, two block assists, and two solo blocks.

Libero Kelsey Vittitow recorded a team-high 31 digs and Haley Clum had eight total blocks, seven assisted, and one solo. Peyton Gerstacker added a double-double with 41 assists and 21 digs for the Cardinals.

SVSU returns home for its final three games of the regular season, starting against Wayne State University at 7 pm Friday at the Hamilton Gymnasium.
