SVSU Volleyball welcomes aboard 2020 Recruiting Class

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- Saginaw Valley State University Volleyball Head Coach Will Stanton has announced the addition of four student-athletes to the program for the 2020 season, as Juliana Dunning, Caitlinn Pistro, Taylor Wegener and Kelsey Vittitow will join the program.

Below is the information on the newest Cardinals and what Coach Stanton says about the additions to the program, which just came off its sixth appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament and the third in the past five seasons. 

Juliana Dunning - Setter - Grand Blanc, Mich. / Grand Blanc High School

- Dunning prepped at Grand Blanc High School, where she led the volleyball program to district titles the past two years and a Saginaw Valley League championship in her junior season. She earned all-conference and all-region honors and was an all-state honoree in her senior campaign. The four-year varsity player was named academic all-state in 2019 and was named academic all-conference all four years. 

"Juliana is a solid setter that has really improved in her Junior year and become one of the better Setters in the area. We expect her to be able to come in and compete right away for playing time in that role."

 

 

Caitlinn Pistro - Libero DS - Freeland, Mich.  Freeland HS

- Pistro prepped at nearby Freeland High School, where she participated in volleyball and track. She is a three-time first team all-region and first team all-conference honoree. She earned all-state honors for track in her freshman season and all-state honorable mention plaudits for volleyball her junior campaign. 

"Caitlinn is an amazing athlete that has played several positions on the Volleyball Court. We expect her to concentrate on the LIbero/DS role and will be competing for time in that spot this year."

 

Taylor Wegener - Outside Hitter - Ida, Mich. / Ida High School

- Wegener prepped at Ida High School, where she participated in volleyball, basketball and softball. She earned all-league and all-region honors all four years in volleyball, adding a pair of second team all-state honors and one first team all-state honor. Taylor has been named all-league and all-region in all three years of basketball and added two all-state plaudits. She played softball in her freshman season, earning all-league honors and helping lead the team to a state championship. Wegener earned academic all-state honors as well during her career.  

"Taylor is a powerful hitter and energetic player that will be moving from the Middle Hitter spot to the Outside Hitter position. Taylor should be able to make our Outside Hitter position stronger next fall."

 

Kelsey Vittitow - Libero DS - Bay City, Mich. / Valley Lutheran High School

- Vittitow prepped at nearby Valley Lutheran High School, where she competes in volleyball, basketball and softball. She earned three first team all-conference and all-region honors in her final three seasons of volleyball. Added to that, Kelsey earned a pair of all-state honors her junior and senior seasons. Vittitow earned all-conference honors in basketball and softball as well. She was recently named the TVC West Most Outstanding Player for her final season of volleyball as well. 

"Kelsey is another all-around athlete and Volleyball Player. She will also be working to concentrate on the Libero/DS position and has the ability to compete for that position this fall."
