SVSU Takes Down LSSU 3-0

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University earns a win over Lake Superior State University by a score of 3-0 in GLIAC play and improves to 9-4 overall and 3-2 in the GLIAC.

LSSU started the first set strong as they led the Cardinals by asix points with a score of 8-2. SVSU would rally late in the set to tie the Lakers, 19-19. The Cardinals would close the first set with athority scoring the final four points of the match with a final score of 25-23.

The second set was a battle through the first half of the match with seven lead changes and the score knotted, 12-12. The Cardinals would go up by four points, the largest margin of the set, with a score of 23-19. The Lakers fought back to within one of the Cardinals, 22-21, but could not stave off the attack of the Cardinals. SVSU would close out the set with a final count, 25-22.

 The Cardinals opened the third set scoring the first two points but the Lakers came back to tie the set, 6-6. The set would go point-for-point finally settling 14-14. Saginaw Valley would score the final 11 points, only allowing the Lakers to score two points ending the match with a final score of 25-16.

Inside the Box Score

  • Maria Vukaj earned "Player of the Match" honors as she recorded nine kills and no errors and a team high hitting percentage of .529. She also earned six digs and one block
  • Sarah Tabit recorded 15 kills which led the Cardinals while also recording three assists and three digs
  • Hannah Tabit led the team in assists with 28 and had five kills and three digs

 "We had a pretty slow start and they served us pretty tough at the beginning which caused some issues. But our serve receive stepped up and really got our offense working. Our serve got tougher as the night went on as well, and that really helped with our own execution."
