HOUGHTON, MICH - The Saginaw Valley State volleyball team dropped a GLIAC match to the Huskies of Michigan Tech, 3-0, falling to 7-4 overall and 1-2 in GLIAC play.
The Cardinals were a bit slow to start the first set and would find themselves in a six point deficit with a count of 12-6 in favor of the Huskies. SVSU turned the tides of the match as they went on a scoring streak to tie the set, 15-15. MTU would call a timeout to regroup but Saginaw Valley refused to back down and matched the host team through a score of 23-23. The Cardinals attacked the last two points of the set but were denied by the Huskies' defense falling, 26-24.
In the second set, Michigan Tech came out strong to take an early lead of 5-1. Senior outside hitter, Sarah Tabit, led the Cardinals on an offensive attack that would bring SVSU within one point of the Huskies by a count of 15-14. MTU's offensive attack was too much for SVSU to defend as Saginaw Valley fell, 25-21.
SVSU went point for point with MTU through the first 10 points of the set. The Huskies then went on a 5-0 run forcing the Cardinals to call a timeout with a score of, 15-10. Saginaw Valley would go on an offensive attack led by setter Hannah Tabit who fed the ball to Olivia Dean and Sarah Tabit for a total of seven kills to knot the teams, 25-25. The Cardinal defense was unable to hold off the Huskies in the final two points and would ultimately fall, 27-25.

- Sarah Tabit would lead the Cardinals in kills with 16 and a hitting percentage of .314. The senior would also record four digs and one block earning her "Player of the Match" honors
- Emily Friesl recorded six kills while also leading the team in blocks with seven
- Olivia Dean matched teammate Friesl in kills with six while adding a service ace and five digs
- Setter Hannah Tabit passed the ball for 35 assists, added two service aces, and recorded 10 digs and four blocks for the Cardinals

"Tech did a really good job of controlling the tempo and the game. And our offense was not able to execute to the level that we needed so we were always playing from behind. We need to do a better job at the serving line and attack better to beat a team that strong."
