Houghton, Mich. — The SVSU Women's Volleyball team rounded out their U.P. trip with a contest this afternoon against the #24 Michigan Tech Huskies. MTU came out strong in set one and set two, but the Cardinals were able to come out strong and defeat the Huskies in set three, 25-11. Although, MTU bounced back to take the final set 25-18 and the match 3-1.
This loss puts SVSU at a 9-4 record in conference play, with a 16-8 overall record heading into Friday's home contest against the #8 ranked FSU Bulldogs.
The Match:
Even though set one fell in the Huskies favor, freshman rightside hitter led the flock with five kills followed by middle attacker Emily Friesl with four. MTU led 1-0 after a 25-22 victory.
Sarah Tabit, Friesl and Huebner all added three kills in set two, with Abbie Toland adding three digs as well. Although, MTU's .353 hitting percentage led by conference kill leader Olivia Ghormley, gave the team a 25-16 win after posting a total of 15 kills.
Heading into the break, MTU led 2-0 in sets played.
The Cardinals were not ready to head home just yet as the SVSU offense heated up, posting 12 kills with only four errors. Olivia Dean was a key player in this set, totalling up five kills.
Also, Saginaw Valley forced a -.115 attacking percentage after posting four blocks in the set, leading to a 25-11 victory. This would be the worst set loss Michigan Tech has seen this season.
The Huskies quickly bounced back in set four, leading 12-8 at the timeout. The Cardinals would remain behind Michigan Tech for the remainder of the set, falling 25-18.
MTU would take the match 3-1 and head to their 10th win in their last 11 games played.

- Friesl earned player of the match accolades after posting the team high of 16 kills and three blocks.
- S. Tabit had eight kills and seven digs.
- Hannah Tabit added 39 assists and two blocks.
- Maria Vukaj posted 11 kills and 12 digs for the Cardinals.
- Abbie Toland had a team high of 17 digs.
- Dean earned five kills
