SVSU Extends Streak To Four After Sweep of Davenport

SVSU Extends Streak To Four After Sweep of Davenport

UNIVERSITY CENTER — The Cardinal Volleyball team took on the Davenport Panthers Saturday afternoon in Hamilton Gymnasium. Saginaw Valley heads to a 14-5, 8-3 overall record, while the Panthers are 6-5 in conference play 11-9 overall.

The Match:

The defensive action at the net was hard to be stopped in the beginning of the contest for the Cardinals, as four key blocks gave DU the lead for most of set one. Luckily, the errors began to pick up for the Panthers, giving SVSU the chance it needed to pull ahead late in the contest.

Emily Friesl led from the middle for the Cards, posting three kills with no errors, as well as Sarah Tabit from the outside, who earned five kills, hitting a .333 overall. Saginaw Valley took set one, 25-21, edging out the 1-0 lead over the Panthers.

Another solid defensive effort kept DU in the contest with another five blocks, but the Cardinals 16 kills on top of that gave the team the 25-21 set two win once again. S. Tabit hit double-digits for the match in kills with 10 in this set, as well as Abbie Toland and Tamara Heller with 10 digs each from the back line.

Heading into the locker room, the Cards led 2-0 in sets played.

After knotting up the contest 11-11 to begin the final set, SVSU pulled away quickly to earn their fourth sweep in a row with a 25- set three victory over the Panthers.

The Cardinals have not lost a single contest in Hamilton Gymnasium in the 2018 season.
