SVSU Volleyball Rolls to 3-0 Victory Over Grand Valley

UNIVERSITY CENTER — The Cardinal Volleyball team hosted the Grand Valley State Lakers in an exciting match in Hamilton Gymnasium. Out of the gate, SVSU took set one quickly and went on to take the match 3-0, leading the Lakers to their sixth GLIAC loss of the season. SVSU heads to a 13-6 overall record, 7-3 in conference play. 

The Match: 

Set one was dominated by the Cards, posting 14 kills while holding the Lakers to a .025 hitting percentage. The Cardinals were led by rightside Reagan Moffit, who hit .333 witih five kills and no errors. 

A close nit battle between the two teams led to believe the Lakers would take set two after leading 21-18 late in the set. Although, due to multiple late errors by GVSU, the Cardinals were able to pull out the set, 25-23. Rachel Eisenhour made her starting debut in the middle attacker position, posting a perfect four kills on eight attempts. 

SVSU led 2-0 in sets heading into the mid-game break. 

Set three was very similar to set two for for the dueling teams, but once again the set fell in Saginaw Valley's favor, 25-23, with S. Tabit leading once again from the outside with four kills. 

A clean sweep over Grand Valley leads the Cardinals to their third straight sweep in a row, with a perfect record in Hamilton Gymnasium. 

Inside the Box Score:

  • Moffit earned player of the match accolades after posting eight kills with only one error, hitting a .259 from the right side. She added three blocks, as well. 
  • S. Tabit led the team with 12 kills. 
  • Rachel Eisenhour had her season high of six kills. She added three blocks, as well. 
  • Hannah Tabit recorded another double-double with 37 assists and 10 digs.
  • Abbie Toland added 18 digs in tonights sweep — she is now only 70 digs away from hitting 1,000 as a junior.

The Cardinals will remain home to take on the Davenport Panthers in another GLIAC contest on Saturday, Oct. 6, beginning at 2 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium.
