Tabit's Stellar Performance Leads Cardinals to 3-0 Victory over Rangers

UNIVERSITY CENTER — The Cardinal Volleyball team took on the Rangers of Parkside Friday night in Hamilton Gymnasium. SVSU dominated the match tonight led by junior outside, Sarah Tabit, to take the match, 3-0. SVSU heads to an 11-5 overall record, 5-4 GLIAC. Parkside falls to 4-12, 2-6 in conference play. 

Even with a tight first set between the Parkside Rangers and the Saginaw Valley Cardinals, SVSU pulled out the set 26-24 after an out of rotation set point called on Wisconsin-Parkside. The Cardinals hit .325 as a team, with Maria Vukaj leading the pack with four kills and no errors. 

Set two took off right from the start for SVSU, as the Cards quickly went up 7-1 over the Rangers. Reagan Moffit helped the Cardinals out, keeping her sheet clean with a total of four kills at the end of the set. Also, S. Tabit was an impact player in this set, posting six kills with no errors. 

SVSU defeated UWP 25-12 and earned themselves a 2-0 lead heading into the locker room break. 

Nothing would stop the Cardinals in the third and final set, with the SV offense dominating the net, racking up 14 kills. Although, six late SV errors would allow the game to remain close until the final kill from middle Lexi Lascowski ended the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-0. 

Saginaw Valley remains undefeated in Hamilton Gymnasium and heads to a 5-3 conference record.  

Inside the Box Score: 

  •  S. Tabit earns player of the match honors after her stellar performance against the Rangers, hitting a season high of .593 with 14 kills and no errors. She added three block assists and three digs, as well. 
  • Hannah Tabit recorded 42 assists, her season high amount in a three set match
  • Vukaj hit a .286 with eight kills and 10 digs
  • Abbie Toland led the defense with 13 digs 
  • Moffit hit a .368 with eight kills and only a solo error that came in the final set
  • Cards recorded eight total blocks
