SVSU Volleyball Signs Five To 2018 Recruiting Class

SVSU Volleyball Signs Five To 2018 Recruiting Class

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. — The Saginaw Valley State Volleyball team signed five new Cardinals to the 2018 recruiting class, with three having personal ties to the SVSU athletic program.

This years recruiting class consists of Kristen Huebner (Saginaw MI, Swan Valley HS), Peyton Gerstacker (Midland MI, Midland HS), Addison Bouza (Bay City MI, Bay City Western HS), Maria Vukaj ( Davison MI, Davison HS) and Kaitlyn (Clum Grosse Ile MI, Grosse Ile HS).

"All 5 of our 2018 Commits are solid and experienced players that will impact our Program right away. This is a pretty big recruiting class for us, so their numbers will be a part of that, but also their skill and work-ethic should really fit in well with our culture and style. We are excited to get this group in the gym next Fall and see how they can help us get Cardinal Volleyball back to the top of the GLIAC." - SVSU Women's Volleyball Head Coach Will Stanton

Kristen Huebner — 5'11 — Right-side attacker, Swan Valley H.S., Saginaw, Mich.

Huebner prepped at Swan Valley High School where she played volleyball. She is a three-time All-Conference and All-Region team member and earned two All-State accolades. Huebner was apart of three district championship teams with Swan Valley and was captian for two of those seasons. She was a two-time AVCA Volleyball Player of the Week and earned ESPN Athlete of the Month during her senior year campaign.

Huebner has been recognized on the Saginaw News and Sports Scene First Team Dream Team, Under Armour All-American Watch List, Under Armour All-American Nomination List and Michigan High School Volleyball Insider Senior Star List. Also, her older sister Lauren Huebner, is currently running track from SVSU as well.

"Kristen is a strong athlete that has not been able to spend much time in her strongest position - as a right-side hitter. Being left-handed makes her a natural on that side of the court, and we are excited to see how she can push our current right-side players once she gets used to that position. She is a powerful hitter and solid block with a great team attitude and work-ethic." — Coach Stanton

Peyton Gerstacker — 5'8 — Libero, Midland H.S., Midland, Mich.

Gerstacker prepped at Midland High School where she played volleyball, soccer and ran track. She was named to the AVCA Under Armor Watch List during her senior year. She was also apart of two Class A District Championship teams and even went on to win regionals during her junior year campaign.

"Peyton is a great athlete that has played nearly every position on the court since we started watching her compete. We expect her to play as a libero or defensive specialist in our system, but she could help out a hitter should we have that need as well. Her willingness to play wherever her Team needs her, and ability to make those adjustments is a testament to her athleticism and her attitude." — Coach Stanton

Addison Bouza — 6'0 — Outside hitter, Bay City Western H.S., Bay City, Mich.

Bouza prepped at Bay City Western High School where she played volleyball and basketball. She has earned Saginaw Valley All-Conference accolades all four years in volleyball, including two first team honors in her junior and senior seasons. Also, she was voted to the Bay County Dream Team and posted the most kills and most digs per set during her junior year.

During her senior year campaign, Bouza posted an All-Region honor, team Most Valuable Player, captain and most kills per set accolades. Also, she is a four-time Saginaw Valley Conference All-Academic team member.

"Addison is a very experienced and controlled player that has shown great resilience in overcoming some of the obstacles in her volleyball career. Her court-presence and leadership really shine when her Teams need her the most. She is a strong Left-Side Hitter with good passing skills as well. And should help by adding some much needed depth to our Left-Side hitter position." — Coach Stanton

Maria Vukaj — 5'11 — Outside Hitter, Davison H.S., Davison, Mich.

Vukaj prepped at Davison High School where she dedicated her time to volleyball and academics. She is a three-time first-team All-Saginaw Valley League and district champ team member as well as a two-time regional finalist. Vukaj received Saginaw Valley All-Academic honors for three seasons.

Also, Maria Vulaj is sisters of previous SVSU Volleyball team member, Leze Vukaj.

"Maria is a very well rounded and experienced Left-Side Hitter. She has solid passing and blocking skills and performs well under pressure. We look for her to provide some depth and challenge our current Left-Side Hitters right away. Her power and control as a Hitter should make her a strong player in the GLIAC." — Coach Stanton

Kaitlyn Clum — 6-1 — OH, Grosse Ile H.S., Grosse Ile Mich.

Clum prepped at Gross Ile High School where she played volleyball, basketball and ran track. She is a two-time All-Area track and volleyball recipient as well as an All-Region volleyball team member and All-State volleyball Nominee during her senior season. On top of her individual honors, Clum was apart of two volleyball district championship teams.

Kaitlyn Clum is sisters of current Cardinal Volleyball team member Haley Clum.

"Kaitlyn is a long and rangy Left-Side Hitter that has yet to reach her potential as a Volleyball player. She has a great court demeanor and work-ethic and we look forward to working with her to see what she can become. Her Athleticism and competitiveness should help create a solid collegiate volleyball player." — Coach Stanton.
