Saginaw Valley Falls in First Day of Midwest Regional Crossover

AURORA, Ill. — The Cardinal Volleyball team opened up the 2017 Midwest Crossover against GLVC member, Quincy, Friday afternoon. Saginaw Valley dropped a close four set match to the Hawks, 3-1, and fell to 0-1 in tournament play. Quincy headed to 5-14 overall and 1-0 in the tournament, while the Cardinals fall to 4-14. 

Set one was a game of who was going to make less errors between the Hawks and Cardinals. Both teams struggled offensively, posting a total of 15 hitting errors between the two teams. Quincy pulled ahead with just a few less errors in the end, earning a 25-16 victory over Saginaw Valley and a 1-0 edge overall.

Set two brought two back to back four point runs for the Hawks, that lead to the Saginaw Valley trailing most of the set. The Cardinals battled back to tie up the set 19-19 with two great service aces by Reagan Moffit. After Quincy took their first timeout of the set after the great serving from the back line, the Cardinals struggled to grab the lead and took their second loss 25-20. 

Saginaw Valley took their efforts in the second set and kicked them into gear to earn a 28-26 victory over the Hawks to hold onto the chance to head to a five setter victory.

Quincy bounced back from a tough late loss against SVSU in set three and worked to earn their team best hitting percentage of .200 and held the Cardinals to a .083. Saginaw Valley dropped the final set 25-21 and ended the match, 3-1.

Rachel Eisenhour posted the teams highest hitting percentage of the day, hitting a .417 with six kills. 
Sarah Tabit contributed 15 kills. 
Emily Nieman added 18 digs.
Hannah Tabit recorded 39 assists. 
Abbie Toland brought in 17 digs from the defensive line.

The Cardinals will take on Maryville (Mo.) at 12 p.m. and Truman at 6 p.m., Saturday (Oct. 14) afternoon. Both times are in eastern standard time and all games will be played at the Great Lakes Center in Aurora, Ill., to finish up the Midwest Regional Crossover. The GLVC is currently leading the tournament with overall wins followed by the GMAC and finally the GLIAC
