Northern Michigan Huskies Defeat the Cardinals, 3-0

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Saturday afternoon was a tough loss for the Cardinal volleyball team, dropping their final game of the weekend to Michigan Tech, 3-0. Saginaw Valley State now heads to 1-9 overall, 0-2 in conference play. MTU jumps ahead to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in GLIAC play. 

Highlights from Michigan Tech (L 3-0)

Michigan Tech played strong during all three sets of play versus Saginaw Valley State. During set one, the Cardinals battled, but could not finish the set due to late errors and two four point runs by the Huskies. MTU took set one 25-17 and carried the momentum over to the next set. Throughout set two, SVSU held their ground until the middle of the set when the Huskies pulled ahead and finished the set 25-15, out scoring the Cardinals 10-5. With a similar start to the first set, the final set was tough for SVSU once 11-9 came around, with MTU creating a solid third set with minimal errors, 25-17 and earned the match victory 3-0. 

From the Boxscore: 

Sarah Tabit contributed 13 kills, one ace and three digs.
• McKenzie Schuster earned the teams best hitting percentage with .375 on four kills over three sets played. 
Hannah Tabit brought 28 assists for the Cardinals and added four digs. 
Abbie Toland lead the team with five digs.

The Cardinals will travel to Lake Superior State on Tuesday (Sept. 19) for one match starting at 7 p.m.
