Saginaw Valley was defeated by Clarion and Davenport in the final day of the UIndy Invitational. The Cardinals fall to 1-7 headed into conference play on Friday. Clarion increases their victory run to 4-2 while Davenport heads to 3-4.
Game One: Clarion (L 3-0)
In set one, Clarion came out strong with a 3-1 lead– Saginaw Valley quickly responded with multiple runs to take the lead 6-4 and continued to keep the lead until a tie of 9-9. With the first time out going to SVSU at 11-9, the Cardinals quickly gained the lead back with their first four-point run of the weekend, 13-12. Second timeout came from CU at 15-13. Saginaw Valley continued to keep the lead until Clarion pulled ahead 20-19. The Golden Eagles took the match 25-22 on a service error from the Cardinals, taking the 1-0 lead in sets. Set two, the Cardinals lead the set from 5-4 to 19-18, but Clarion out scored SVSU 6-3 in the final points of the match, taking the set 25-22. The Golden Eagles lead 2-0 in sets played. Saginaw Valley started out hot with a 5-1 lead in set three, but CU came back quickly and took the lead 8-7. Clarion kept the lead for the remainder of the set, taking the set 25-21 and victory, 3-0.
Inside the Boxscore:
• Hannah Tabit lead the team with 27 assists. She also contributed three kills and hit .500, earning her the "Player of the Match."
• Haley Clum contributed four kills and no errors, hitting .364 on the match.
• Sarah Tabit recorded 14 kills and nine digs for the Cardinals.
• Emily Nieman tallied the teams highest amount of digs at 18.
• Lindsey Jacobs added 10 digs.
• Saginaw Valley out-scored the Golden Eagles in service aces 6-2 and in overall blocks 5-4.

"Against Clarion, we played much better and had some very good runs, but we're unable to finish the games when we had the opportunity. Our serving was stronger and put us in position to score more often, and our serve receive has been getting better every match."
Game Two: Davenport (L 3-1)
With a fairly back and fourth beginning first set, the Cardinals took off at 10-10 and kept the lead until Davenport pulled back in the match at 24-24. Saginaw Valley fought hard, winning the set 27-25 and took a 1-0 lead. Panthers bounced back from the set one loss and never let the Cardinals take the lead, taking the victory 25-11 and equalling out set wins 1-1. In the third set, the Panthers found a rhythm and kept the lead from 5-4 to the final score, 25-20. Davenport jumped out with a 4-0 lead in the fourth set. SVSU continued to battle their way back into the set, but only came within two for the remainder of the match. Panthers win set four 25-22.

"We had to overcome a bit of adversity in this match with some injuries and missing players, and the girls stepped up and really battled. Although we did not win, it was good to see, and showd some of the heart that had been missing from some of our other matches."

• Lindsey Jacobs scored her career high of 15 digs, earning her the "Player of the Match."
• With a high scoring match, Emily Friesl contributed nine kills and hit the teams high of .240 and added 13 digs.
• Sarah Tabit contributed 15 kills and McKenzie Schuster recorded 13 kills.
• Rachel Eisenhour attacked the Panthers offense with six blocks, her career high.
• Hannah Tabit recorded her career high of 40 assists.
