LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team was honored with the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2015-16 season.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale. The Cardinals maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.497 for the academic year to earn the honor.
Success in the classroom this past season blended well with what SVSU was able to do on the court, as the Cards qualified for their fourth-ever NCAA Division II Tournament in 2015. Saginaw Valley finished the campaign with an overall record of 22-9 and a 12-6 mark in the GLIAC. The 22 victories marked just the fifth time in the program's 36 years that SVSU surpassed the 20-win mark.
