UNIVERSITY CENTER - Playing the first home match after a 12-match road swing to open the 2015 season, the SVSU volleyball team was impressive in a 3-0 sweep over GLIAC North opponent Wayne State on Tuesday (Sep. 29) night in Saginaw Valley's Cardinal Gym.

The Cardinals opened the game with a 25-14 victory in the opening set to take the 1-0 advantage. SVSU would then continue on and claim 25-22 and 25-19 wins in the second and third sets, respectively.

The victory moves SVSU to 11-2 overall on the season with a 3-2 record in the GLIAC while the Warriors fall to 5-9 overall and 1-4 in league play.

Saginaw Valley hit at a .231 clip for the match compared to Wayne State's mark of .065. 

Kaylee Schmitt had a big game offensively, racking-up a match-high 13 kills for a hitting percentage of .526. 

Tamara Heller added 10 kills and five digs, earning Chili's "Player of the Match" honors. 

Kelly Vellucci set her teammates up nicely, totaling 34 assists while adding nine digs and two kills. Brooke Tiller anchored the defense, picking up a match-best 19 digs.

Saginaw Valley continues the play on its home court with a pair of weekend matches at the Cardinal Gym. The Cardinals host Walsh University on Friday (Oct. 2) at 7:00 p.m. before playing Malone Saturday in a 2:00 p.m. contest.
