3-0 Victory Over Walsh Gives Volleyball Fourth-Straight Victory

NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Riding a three match winning streak and facing a week with four contests, the Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team kept things rolling with a 3-0 victory over the Walsh University Cavaliers on Friday night (9/26).

It was the second win of the week for the Cardinals, who claimed a 3-1 decision at Wayne State University on Tuesday night.

Saginaw Valley opened the match with a 25-22 win in the first set.  The second set was all SVSU as well, as the Cards posted a .394 hitting percentage while taking it by a 25-14 count.  SV closed-out the contest in three sets after taking the third by a score of 25-19.

The Cardinals hit .253 as a team while holding the Cavs to a .132 clip. 

Sidney Scott led the way offensively for Saginaw, hitting .412 while posting nine kills on 17 attacks.  She was named the Chili's "Player of the Match" for her efforts.  Makenzie Frodle kept up the great work at the net as well, tallying five kills and a .556 percentage.

Brooke Tiller led the way defensively with nine digs while Tamara Heller added seven.  Kelly Vellucci had 27 helpers on the night.

With the victory, the Cardinals improve to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the GLIAC.  Walsh remains winless with an 0-10 mark overall and an 0-6 record in league play.

There is a big day ahead of the Saginaw Valley squad tomorrow, as it faces Malone University in a 1:00 pm contest before taking on the #6 team in the country, Wheeling-Jesuit.  First serve for that match is set for 3:30 pm and it will be played at Malone as well.
