LEXINGTON, Ky. - For the third-straight year, the Saginaw Valley State University volleybal team has earned the Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
The honor, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale.
The Cardinals posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.486 for the 2013-14 academic year, ranking them third in the SVSU Athletic Department, a department that has posted a total GPA of over a 3.0 for six consecutive semesters.
Saginaw Valley opens its 2014 season at the Seaside Invitational in San Diego, Calif. The Cardinals will square-off against Cal State Dominguez Hills, Fresno Pacific, Azusa Pacific and Point Loma in the tourney, which runs from September 5-6.
