Cardinal Volleyball Team Honored By AVCA

Lexington, Ky. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team has been honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) with the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 season.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.

The Cardinals obtained a team GPA of 3.45 for the academic school year.

"This national recognition by the AVCA is a great way to honor the programs that value the educational component of the overall Student-Athlete experience," said SVSU Head Coach Will Stanton, whose team has achieved this honor two years in a row.  "Receiving this award in back to back years shows the University's, and our Program's, commitment to the academic success of our Volleyball Student-Athletes and is another reward for the work our players have done in the classroom."

The Cardinals open the 2013 season at the Ferris State Bulldog Classic September 6th-7th.
