UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University volleyball team defeated the visiting Lake Superior State University Lakers Saturday (11/6), 3-2. The victory improves the Cardinals to 13-12 overall on the season and 8-10 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play while the Lakers fall to 6-19 overall and 2-16 in the GLIAC.
The Cardinals came out swinging, taking the first set by a score of 25-12. The LSSU Lakers would rebound, winning the next two sets, 25-23 and 25-19. SVSU would then close-out the match by taking the last two sets by scores of 25-11 and 15-12, respectively.
Chili's "Player of the Match" Annie Buxton (Aurora, Ont./Aurora SS) had a team-high 20 kills offensively to go along with six digs and three blocks. Jessica Treiber (Sebewaing, Mich./USA HS) had 10 kills and four digs while adding five blocks. Becky Schroeder (Owosso, Mich./Northwood University) added five kills and 8 blocks for the Cardinals, who hit .243 as a squad against the Lakers. Sam Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.) had 46 assists while Laura Ward (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS) had a match-high 20 digs.
The Cardinals are back in action again Sunday (11/7) at 2:00 pm, as the host Northwood University in the last regular season match-up.
