SVSU Track & Field Competes at GVSU Big Meet

ALLENDALE - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track & field teams competed in the annual GVSU Big Meet on Friday and Saturday and below are some of the results for the Cardinals:

Friday

Cady Sandel claimed first in her heat with a time of 1:41.26 while Paige Stepanski did the same, finishing with a time of 1:42.68 in the event.

Taylor Stepanski had a great showing in the mile run, finishing with an NCAA Provisional qualifying time of 4:52.36.  The time was good enough for 4th place in her section of the open event.  Brittany Johnson had a provo mark as well in the same event, posting a time of 4:58.34.

Anna Fochesato added another provisional mark for the Lady Cards.  She participated in the high jump, finishing in a tie for 6th with a height of 1.66 meters.

In the men's 5,000 meter run, Joey Southgate crossed the line with a provisional mark of 14:42.83 to finish 15th in the highly-competitive event.

Robert Tarpley added a good showing in the men's triple jump, as he posted a mark of 14.26 meters to finish in 2nd place.

Saturday

The women's 4 x 400 meter relay team, consisting of Fochesato, Devyn Powell, Lina Davis and Kimberly Balls, finished in 2nd place with a mark of 4:01.41.

Fochesato then had a mark of 1.65 meters in the high jump open event, tying for the top spot in her flight.  She would add another provisional mark, this time in the women's triple jump with a distance of 11.66 meters to end up with the top spot in her flight.

D'Omar Boyden qualified for the 60 meter hurdles final as well, finishing with a third place time of 8.33.

The men's 4 x 400 team of Lee Chiatalis, Andrew Mudd, Jimmy Cousins and Gerald Henderson, finished in 4th place with a mark of 3:21.71.

In the men's high jump, Brady Watson finished with a height of 1.90 meters.  Teammate Tyler Debuf had the top spot in the long jump with a distance of 5.94 meters.

Bradly Niedecken had a runner-up showing in the shot put, tossing it a distance of 12.26 meters.
