Cardinal Track Teams Compete at Ernie Mousseau Classic

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's and men's track & field teams traveled to compete in the Ernie Mousseau Classic, hosted by Aquinas College at Houseman Field.

For the women, the the 4 x 100 meter relay team, consisting of Domonique Smith, Kimberly Balls, Shavonne Roberson and Diamond Taylor, ran to a first place finish with a time of 47.66.

Anna Fochesato had a pair of runner-up finishes in the event, finishing second in the high jump with a height of 1.66 meters and in the triple jump as well with a mark of 11.37 meters.

Sidney Bischer took third in the long jump, leaping to a length of 5.23 meters.

On the men's side, Eric Thornton claimed another high jump victory, crossing the bar at a height of 2.00 meters.

In the pole vault, Joe Thwing finished fifth with a mark of 4.10 meters and teammate Andrew Mudd was seventh with a height of 3.81 meters.  Mudd added a sixth place finish in the long jump with a length of 6.35 meters.

The teams will be back in action on Wednesday, as competition begins for the 2014 GLIAC Outdoor Championships (April 30 - May 2).  The championships will be held at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio and will be hosted by Lake Erie College.
