Women's Track and Field Finish Strong in Two-Day Hillsdale College Invite

HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's track and field team competed at the two-day Hillsdale College Invite on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 7-8).

Competing in the pentathalon for the Cardinals was sophomore Sidney Bischer, who was able to pick up a 6th place finish with 2,785 points.

Emerald Joiner took 5th place in weight throw with a toss of 16.53 meters.  Joiner also placed in shot put, throwing a distance of 12.71 meters and placing 6th.

Saginaw Valley had impressive showings in long distance events as well, with Emily Short taking 3rd in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:55.18 and Chantelle Fondren taking 5th in the 1 mile run in a time of 5:10.94.

Anna Fochesato competed in both high jump and triple jump for the Cardinals.  Fochesato was able to place 3rd in the high jump with a leap of 1.64 meters and 2nd in the triple jump, reaching a distance of 11.34 meters.

The 4X400 meter relay team of Diamond Taylor, Shavonne Roberson, Kim Balls and Domonique Smith grabbed a 7th place finish with a time of 4:02.61.

Taylor also picked up a 6th place finish in the 400 meter dash, crossing the finish line at 58.08.

The Cardinals will return to action next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 14-15) when they travel to Bloomington, Ind. to compete at the Hoosier Hills Invitational.
