Cardinals Host SVSU vs GVSU Dual

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track & field teams hosted the third-annual SVSU vs GVSU Dual on Friday afternoon in O'Neill Arena.  

The women had many notable performances in the event.

Emily Short posted a first-place finish in the mile run with a time of 5:06.  She was followed by teammate Chantelle Fondren, who crossed the finish line with a time of 5:15.

The Cardinals had another pair of student-athletes who had first-place finishes, as Tori Peet won the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:34.45 and Emerald Joiner had an NCAA Provisional qualifying mark of 13.76 meters in the shot put.  Joiner would add another provisional mark in the weight throw with a mark of 16.67 meters.

Anna Fochesato had a first-place showing in the high jump, leaping to a height of 1.62 meters.

Fondren also had a runner-up finish in the 800 meter run, finishing with a time of 2:21.92.

Diamond Taylor had a second-place finish in the 200 meter dash, sprinting to a time of 26.12.

On the men's side, D'Omar Boyden ran to a second place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.33.

Joey Burelle claimed a victory in the mile run, crossing the line with a time of 4:26 while James Walker posted a time of 49.0 for an NCAA Provisional time in the 400 meter dash.

Andrew Middleton claimed a first place finish in the 800 meter run with at time of 1:56.73 and Tony Peel had a runner-up showing in the 3,000 meter run, crossing with a mark of 8:53.05.

Nick Halabicky rounded-out things for SVSU in the men's shot put, placing second with a toss of 14.46 meters.

The Lakers claimed the dual meet with a final score of 81-54 on the women's side and by a count of 85-54 for the men.  The Cards are back in action on Friday, January 31st, as they host 'The Cardinal'.  The meet is set to begin at 3:00 pm in SVSU's O'Neill Arena.
