Hill Sets New School Record at Last Chance Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track and field teams competed Saturday (5/12) in the Grand Valley State University hosted Last Chance Meet.

The Cardinals saw much success with six athletes earning NCAA DII Provisional Qualifying marks.  Leading the way for Saginaw Valley was senior Lauren Hill (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock HS) who placed first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase crossing the line at 10:58.68, setting a new school record.  Earning a first place finish in the 1,500-meter run was fellow senior Ashley Meyer (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS) who improved her Provisional Qualifying time to 4:36.35.  Teammates Alycia Wright (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North HS) and Diamond Taylor (Southfield, Mich./Southfield HS) both placed second in their respective events, Wright in the 800-meter (2:10.56) and Taylor in the 400-meter (55.76).  For the men, Jon Wetters (Essexville, Mich./Garber HS) would place first in the 3,000-meter steeple chase coming in with a Provisional Qualifying time of 9:23.40.  Senior teammate Brian Bott (Buckley, Mich./Kingsley HS) also earned a Provisional mark in the hammer throw competition with a toss of 55.17 meters, good for a fifth place finish.

With the completion of the meet the Cardinals anxiously await the NCAA DII National Track and Field Championship qualifying lists to be posted.  The select few that qualify will compete 5/24, 5/25 and 5/26 in the National Championships
