ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track and field teams competed Friday (5/11) in the Grand Valley State University hosted Second to Last Chance Meet.
The women saw much success at the meet with one athlete earning a NCAA DII Automatic Qualifying time while two athletes earned NCAA DII Provisional Qualifying times. Alycia Wright (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North HS) was the lone NCAA DII Automatic qualifier this weekend when she placed second in the 800-meter run coming in at 2:09.91, just .05 seconds shy of setting a new school record. Lauren Hill (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock HS) and Diamond Taylor (Southfield, Mich./Southfield HS) both earned NCAA DII Provisional Qualifying times, Hill in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Taylor in the 400-meter run. Hill crossed the line at 11:05.78 for the steeplechase, breaking her previously set school record by one second. Taylor placed third in the 400-meter run coming in at 56.16.
Senior Brian Bott (Buckley, Mich./Kingsley HS) was the only male athlete to earn a NCAA DII Provisional Qualifying mark for the Cardinals. He placed third in the hammer throw with a toss of 56.12 meters.
The Cardinals will be back in action again Today (5/12) when they compete in the GVSU hosted Last Chance Meet.
