Lady Cardinals Garner All-American Honors at NCAA DII National Championships

MANKATO, Minn. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track and field teams had athletes compete in day one of the NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field National Championships.

The Lady Cardinals competed well as the distance medley relay team consisting of Alycia Wright (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North HS), Megan Pittoors (Macomb, Mich./Dakota HS), Diamond Taylor (Southfield, Mich./Southfield HS), and Ashley Meyer (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS) earned an eighth place finish set a new school record of 11:48.53, garnering All-American honors.  Wright would also set a new school record in the 800-meter run timing in at 2:11.06, good for first place finish in the prelims.  Senior Elizabeth Willford (Gladwin, Mich./Gladwin HS) would compete in the pole vault and record a mark of 3.60 meters, good for a tenth place finish.

Junior Tyler Grob (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney HS) competed in day one of the heptathlon competition for the men and ended day one with a point total of 2,581.  Grob would earn an 11th place finish in the 60-meter dash clocking in at 7.40.  The next event that Grob competed in was the long jump where he placed 13th with a mark of 6.00 meters.  The third event was the shot put where he placed second with a toss of 12.82 meters.  The final event of the day was the high jump where he cleared a bar of 1.76 meters good for a 13th place finish. 

The Cardinals will be back in action Saturday (3/10) when they compete in day two of the NCAA DII National Championships.
