EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's and women's track and field teams competed in their first outdoor meet of the season at the Michigan State University (MSU) Spartan Invitational.
The women's team was led by junior distance runner Megan Pittoors (Macomb, Mich./Dakota HS) who earned a third place finish in the 5,000-meter run coming in with a time of 17:58.29. Freshmen teammates Samantha Cormier (Frankenmuth, Mich./Frankenmuth HS) and Jessica Treiber (Sebewaing, Mich./Unionville-Sebewaing Area HS) placed fourth and fifth in the javelin throw with distances of 32.49-meters and 32.24-meters, respectively. Earning a fourth place finish in the 800-meter run was junior Alycia Wright (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North HS) crossing the line with a final time of 2:18.11. The 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Elizabeth Sampson (Willis, Mich./Lincoln HS), Kelsey Bartoloni (Southgate, Mich./Southgate HS), Shavonne Roberson (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti HS), and Sarah Kawiecki (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) placed third overall with a final time of 50.44. Kawiecki, Bartoloni, and Wright were joined by Diamond Taylor (Southfield, Mich./Southfield HS) in the 4x400-meter relay that placed fourth overall and came in at a time of 4:18.32 to round out the meet.
The men's team was led by distance runners Cortland Seaver (Freeland, Mich./Freeland HS), who placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:11.60, and Jon Wetters (Essexville, Mich./Garber HS), who placed fifth in the 3,000-meter run with a final time of 9:44.93. The 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Ricky Griffin (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer HS), Raetron Bryant (Burton, Mich./Artherton HS), Lee Chiatalas (Fenton, Mich./Linden HS), and James Walker (West Bloomfield, Mich./Walled Lake Central HS) earned a third place finish crossing the line with a time of 42.88. The 4x400-meter relay team made up of Bryant, Walker, Chiatalas, and Tyler Grob (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney HS) placed fourth, clocking in at 3:29.30 to round out the meet for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals will be back in action again when they travel to Ferris State University to compete in the Bulldog Invitational.
