UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team closed the fall portion of the 2021-22 schedule with a pair of home matches this weekend, concluding against the University of Findlay for Senior Day on Saturday at the SVSU Tennis Complex.
The Cardinals fell to the Oilers 6-1 with senior Nicole Johnson earning the lone win for the Cardinals. SVSU also dropped a match to Walsh University 7-0 on Friday at the Great Midland Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.
SVSU ends the fall season with a record of 2-5.
Against Findlay, Johnson battled to a third set at No. 4 singles, taking the match 7-1, 1-6, 11-9. Johnson and fellow senior Joanne Gao were honored in a Senior Day ceremony following the match.
In the match against Walsh on Friday, the Cardinals had several hard-fought matches including from Emma Charlton in No. 1 singles. She fell 7-5, 6-0 to her Cavalier opponent. At No. 3 singles, Sara Neves also had a tough match. The junior won the first set 6-4, before falling 6-0 in the second and 10-5 in the third-set super tiebreaker.
SVSU will return to action in the spring of 2022.
