SVSU drops close match to Cornerstone 4-3

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team fell to Cornerstone University on Saturday 4-3 at the SVSU Tennis Complex. 

At No. 2 doubles, Chelsea Dzenga and Elizabeth Stuart picked up the win for SVSU 6-3 over their opponents, but the Golden Eagles captured the point with wins at the other two flights.

Stuart also won her match at No. 4 singles in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, while Andrea Teofilovic took her match at No. 5, winning 6-2, 7-6 (7-4). Alexis Anthes won her match in straight sets 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.

"A tough loss against a good team. It shows we still have work to do, in order to be the team we know we can be going forward," SVSU head coach Ryan Ruzziconi said. "Very nice singles wins today by three freshmen - Elizabeth Stuart, Andrea Teofilovic, and Alexis Anthes. Also, another strong doubles win from the duo of Chelsea Dzenga and Elizabeth Stuart." 

The Cardinals will be back in action at 1 pm Sunday at Hillsdale College.
