SVSU wins second straight, rolls past Davenport 6-1

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -  The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team won its second consecutive match, topping Davenport University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match Tuesday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Cardinals won five of the six singles matches and swept the doubles to defeat the Panthers 6-1. The win moves SVSU to 4-8 overall and 2-4 in the GLIAC.

The match started with Chelsea Dzenga and Sara Neves combining for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while Nicole Johnson and Emma Charlton took their match 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. After the No. 3 match was forfeited by Davenport, SVSU went up 1-0.

Davenport won its lone matchup of the day at No. 1 singles, but the Cardinals picked up the victories the rest of the way down the lineup in dominating fashion. Charlton took No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-0, followed by Dzenga and Johnson sweeping their matches at No. 3 and No. 4, 6-0 6-0. The final two matches were forfeited by Davenport.

The Cardinals return to action against Wayne State University at 2 pm Friday in Detroit.
