Cards cruise to 7-0 victory over Davenport

MIDLAND -- The Cardinal Women's Tennis team defeated the Davenport University Panthers by a 7-0 score on Saturday (Sep. 28) afternoon in a match that was played indoors at the Midland Community Tennis Center. 

Saginaw Valley claimed all of the doubles matches to take the single point and lead heading into singles action. The Cardinals continued on to win the rest as well, closing-out for the 7-0 win over the Panthers. 

Doubles

Maddie Miller and Taylor McLaughlin teamed-up for a 6-4 win at #1 doubles while Nicole Johnson and Sara Neves won by that same score in #3 doubles. Joanne Gao and Gyselle Daza Gutierrez were victorious at #2 doubles by a 6-2 count.

Singles

Neves cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at #5 singles and Johnson defeated her opponent at the #6 spot by a 6-1, 6-0 score. Miller won her #1 singles contest 6-2, 6-3 and McLaughlin won 6-3, 6-0 at the #3 position. Gutierrez defeated her opponent at #4 singles 6-1, 6-4. Gao had the only three-setter of singles action, pulling out the win at #2 singles by scores of 6-0, 4-6, 12-10.

"This was a great team performance today. Our focus was to go out and set the tone on the court by being aggressive and dictating play. We brought great energy and that was a huge difference maker. I was really proud of how we competed."

Up Next...

SVSU hosts Purdue Northwest on Sunday morning in another GLIAC matchup. First serve will be 11:00 a.m. at the SVSU Women's Tennis Complex. The Pride is coming off a 7-0 defeat at Northwood on Saturday.
