Women's Tennis announces the signing of Adiya Young

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- Saginaw Valley State University Women's Tennis head coach Jenn Boehm has announced the addition of Adiya Young (Commerce Township, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern HS) to the program. Adiya will be joining the Cardinals for the 2019-20 season.

Young will join the SVSU Women's Tennis program after her high school career at Walled Lake Northern, where she competed in both basketball and tennis. She is a four-year varsity player for the Knights, as well as a member of the National Honor Society and French Honor Society. She is an Academic All-State student-athlete as well. Young is rated as the 15th-best player among seniors in the state heading into the spring. Her private coaches are Joe Brennan and Marimar Alonso and she trains at The Sports Club of West Bloomfield.

"Aside from her tennis ability, one thing that really stood out to me is that Adiya is trained in kick boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and American Freestyle Karate. She earned her black belt when she was 12 and won a state championship in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. These accomplishments clearly demonstrate high levels of discipline and commitment and I am confident that will carryover to her journey as a Cardinal student-athlete. She has also proven to be incredibly genuine, self-aware, and shares our program's philosophies of positivity and team unity. We are very excited to welcome her to campus and our SVSU Tennis family."
