SVSU Falls to Northwood 4-0 in GLIAC Tournament Opener

MIDLAND — The Cardinal Women's Tennis team traveled to play at Northwood University in the first round of the GLIAC tournament held at the Greater Midland Tennis Center Friday (Oct. 26) evening. 

SVSU fell 4-0 to the Timberwolves, leaving the Cardinals to play Lake Superior State on Saturday afternoon in round two. 

NU came in as the No. 2 seed in the tournament, sharing a Co-Champion title with Grand Valley State during regular season play. 

Doubles

The #1 duo of Maddie Miller and Gyselle Daza Gutierrez lost 6-1 while Joanne Gao and Maya Campbell fell 6-0 in the No. 2 slot to begin action, giving the Timberwolves the doubles point. . 

Singles

The Cardinals had couldn't pull through enough in singles action, battling but dropping their three matchups there.

At the top spot, Miller fell 6-2, 6-1. In the #2 singles slot, Gao lost set one 6-3, followed by a 6-1 decision in set two. 

In the No. 3 singles spot, Taylor McLaughlin fell in set one 6-3 and had to retire in the second, leaving Northwood with the match win, 4-0.

Saginaw Valley returns to the complex on Saturday at 3:45 p.m. to take on Lake Superior State in second round action from Midland.
