Cardinals fall to GVSU in league tilt

MIDLAND -- The Saginaw Valley State University Women's Tennis team faced the Grand Valley State University Lakers on Saturday (Oct. 20) afternoon in a league contest. The Cardinals dropped the decision by a 7-0 score in a match played indoors at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.

Doubles

The Lakers claimed the single point after claiming a victory at all three spots. Maddie Miller and Gyselle Daza Gutierrez fell 6-2 at #1 doubles while Joanne Gao and Maya Campbell fell by a score of 6-3 at the #2 slot. At #3 doubles, Taylor McLaughlin and Nicole Johnson dropped their match by a 6-2 score.

Singles

Johnson fell 6-2, 7-5 at the #6 singles spot, saving four match points to remain alive in the second set. Gao dropped her matchup at #2 singles by the same scores of 6-2, 7-5. Miller fell 6-2, 6-2 at #1 and McLaughlin lost her match by a 7-5, 6-0 score at the #3 spot. Gutierrez fell in her #5 singles contest by a 6-4, 6-1 count. Campbell fell by scores of 6-3, 6-3 at #4 singles. 

Up Next...

SVSU faces Ferris State University on Sunday in another GLIAC contest. The match will also be played at the Greater Midland Tennis Center with a first serve set for noon.
